It was a cold and dreary night (first hunt after leaving Daylight Saving). Add to that an intermittent rain for good measure to challenge the hunters. Transmitter site was chosen to provide an initial DF bearing halfway between I15 and SR67 to the north. The transmitter was 200 milliwatts into a yagi at the south extent of the Poway residential area aimed at the start down the canyon opening up to the south at Santee Lakes.
Two teams participated in the hunt and both traveled the two different routes available to the T. Greg KI6RXX and Bill KM6ORF spent some time investigation Santee Lakes before traveling up SR67. Bruce K6AUW and friend Ken experienced complete signal loss on the trip up I15 and lost time double backing to Murphy Canyon area to investigate earlier possible reflection observations before heading back up to Poway. Both teams arrived at the T within a few minutes of each other after about an hour of hunting.
We all retired to Pazzo Pizza Restaurant (in the Scripts Ranch area) for a couple of delicious pizzas and plenty of good old fashioned story telling. |
