This hunt started with five one-watt transmitters beaconning with a 12 second transmission each in a round-robin one minute cycle. Tony and I met with the five hunting teams at the start point to describe how the hunt was designed, hand out score punch cards, and confirm that some of the transmitter signals were heard at the parking lot. Four transmitters were heard by some members of the hunt group at the start. We did not expect the teams would necessarily find all of the transmitters but believed that hiding in two well used areas of previous hunts over the years would assist in finding at least a few of the T-boxes without much trouble. A combination of factors contributed to a much harder hunt than expected for everyone involved. Some hunters had attended the Lakeside hamfest for much of the day and were somewhat fatigued at the beginning this involved hunt. Transmitter 2 box failed approximately 30 minutes into the hunt causing some confusion, transmitter 1 was placed in a location that caused several hunt teams difficulty in determining a satisfactory bearing once on the Crest mesa. Finally, darkness is occurring much earlier recently as we enter our night t-hunting mode. Two teams managed to locate all of the transmitters with much effort (more than the hiders had intended). Since a paper punch login was used to record each teams progress, we can only report the results of the teams that turned in the score cards at the restaurant (Bon Giovoni's) on Old Highway 8. We regret that in spite of all of the preparation effort that were expended for this hunt by us, that some of our experienced hunt teams became frustrated and subsequently did not enjoy the hunt or make it to the dinner.
