Remarks

"The regular Saturday night hunt of September 3:, , The hunt started on time at 18:00 with what was reported to be a weak but useable signal at the start point. (Success on our part). We had AUW's Quad on a 45 degree angle pointed at Mount Miguel, hoping to draw the hunters past us to that area. The hiders were able to monitor 3 of the teams progress using the APRS.FI app on Bruce's phone. This proved to be very entertaining for us and eliminated the always present fear of the hider that the hunters are messing with them and went to dinner without them., , First out of the start point were Joe and Greg. They were very efficient in getting to the area and we spotted them at the gate to the school at 18:25. (They were not fooled into the Mount Miguel trap, Drat!) They then went south of us and wandered around the neighborhood and local park for a while. Meanwhile, Joe and Tony left the lot about 10 mins. behind Joe and Greg. They drove past us on Hwy 94 and proceeded toward Jamul and Mount Miguel all the way up to Steel Canyon High School! (Success!) , , As this was happening, according to APRS.FI, VCR had still not left the starting point. We figured something was wrong with the app set up on his end. Turns out he was being a good Samaritan and assisting Tim and Robert with an equipment issue. After he left the start he too drove past us and out toward Jamul (Success again!) Both the Jamul teams eventually headed up Miller Ranch Road on Mount Miguel and got a good bearing back to us. , , Nathan KK6ETN, was spotted at the school gate about this time. He spent a few mins. there and disappeared again. Joe and Tony and VCR Tom appeared at the gate a few minutes later., , After 4 teams were in and we had not seen Robert and Tim we called them. The were in the Grossmont Center parking lot still experiencing equipment problems. We told them where to meet for dinner and adjourned to the restaurant for adequate food and poor service., , If you don't have the APRS.FI app on your phone please download it. It sure made hiding much more enjoyable. And Jippy can watch us run around., , VOC, AUW & BXP,"
