Remarks

It looked like it was going to be a long night.... Greg-W6BAF had family business to attend to so I called Garry KF6DOZ out of hibernation to assist me. Our goal was to get the hunters to go to Tierrasanta by bouncing a signal off the hill between the east ends of Tierrasanta Bl. & Clairemont Mesa bl. We set up the 11 ele. beam with a bearing of about 10 degrees tilted up at the hills across the canyon. Unfortunately I forgot my camera so no photos are available! We set up the radio and Pic Con and did a quick test. While monitoring we kept hearing a Pic Con tones and call sign... sounded like WA6ZMZ but no T #. Called Joe KE6PHB at the college and he said yes, they were calibrating their Doppler. About 5:45 Garry walked up the street and down into the canyon and placed T-2 (Squawk box) while I put out T-3 (Squawk box) in some bushes on the corner of the intersection of Conestoga Way & Conestoga Dr. We were set up with the main T at the west end of Conestoga Dr. Hunt started at 6:05 PM with 50 watts and after 10 minutes was turned down to 25 watts. Bruce, KF6AUW called at 6:24 and said he had just started the hunt from home and was heading west. 6:26 we saw Joe KE6PHB & Tony, WA6ZMZ go by heading south... the signal was off the air at the time. 6;30 Joe & Tony return and locate T-3 making them the Winners. They continued to practice their sniffing techniques until they found T-2, 6:47 Mark, KK6MHO, Trevor and Dillon arrived and located T-2 & T-3 making them Second Place for the record in case First Place team can't hide next time.,7:04 Tom, K6VCR and Dodi arrive and locate T-3 & T-2,7:20 Bruce,"KF6AUW arrives. He had called at 7:06 from Tierrasanta saying the he and two other teams were at the east end of Clairemont Mesa Bl.and were heading back to the vicinity of Princess View and Mission Gorge Rd. I told him that was a ""Wise Decision"" on his part. Took him 14 minutes to get back into the area and locate us. He located T-3 & T-2 also.",7:28 Bill, W6ZM and Brian, KI6DUR arrived and located T-3 & T-2. Never did verify if they found T-1?,7:50 Marty, K6KTP & Jerry, W6VLF arrived, T-2 was off the air so Marty was locating T-3,8:02 Cliff, N5BXE and his son Chip arrived, beat the clock by 3 minutes because the allotted time of 2 hours would have expired at 8:05. They had been in the area for quite a while and said they had driven past up twice but we had never noticed them! Note.... All complaints regarding, late starts, calibration of equipment, forgotten equipment and equipment failure have been ignored to provide a fair and impartial ruling of the hunt! 8:20 We adjourned to Emiliano's for Mexican Food and to celebrate another year of "T-Hunt Activitys" Joe N6SZO & Garry KF6DOZ, Results will also be posted on T-Hunt Reflector. Merry Christmas & Happy New Years...see everyone on Jan 4th?
